Loisada Multi-Faith Center

Second Year, First Semester Studio Project

The first part of the project focused on the combination of precedent typologies with foreign rituals through collages of 2D analytical plans and sections. The Fahraj Mosque was paired with the Tirta Empul Hindu Purification. The Lands-berg Synagogue was paired with an Emma Goldman Speech in Union Square. The Temple of Heaven was paired with the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen. These collages were then expressed three dimensionally in quick sketch models.

The middle part of the project focused on creating a model exploring the structural implications of the collage operations.

The final project is the design of a multi- faith center created from elements of the collage operations and original rituals. My project has a church, a purification pool and a theater. Even though they each have their own space, the circulation and layout of the building blurs the boundary between each ritual. The building engages with the urban context of Alpha-bet City by providing access to the multi - faith center from both the sidewalk and the NYCHA housing courtyard behind. The building also has a terrace/cafe/theater space above the purification pool that overlooks the community garden across the street.
